Go Pittsburgh!
I am a true girl because when the game started we all voiced who we thought would win. I based my opinion on the uniforms I liked best. So yay for GOLD! LOL.
Actually, a friend of mine had pestered me all Friday and Saturday to have a Super Bowl Party at my apartment. I was reluctant to do so because I was tired and didn’t feel like cooking and cleaning.
I had Originally made plans with my friend Nechama (pronounced Nay-Hama) to teach her how to make Sushi and she asked if her hubs could watch the game with my roommate. I said why not. Then Henry had the bright idea that we should just buy some wings and beer and have a mini party. . .
Henry knew of a great Asian market in Queens where we could get everything for a great price. He was right! I got all the sushi stuff for $20! That’s a steal! Then Henry got the wings. Fresh wings for $1.99 a lb. We paid $7 for a feast of wings!

When I got home I started the rice for Nechama’s sushi lesson. Then I made my rub for the wings. I soaked the wings in sea salt and fresh lemon juice and gave them a good rinse. Then I got to the spices.

Paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt and flour.

Placed it all in a Ziploc baggie and mixed it up. CAUTION: Don’t Sniff this as your mixing it. You WILL cough! Henry learned the hard way.

Next I heated up the deep fryer. I used Canola Oil. It was what I had lying around. This deep fryer needs 1/2 gallon of oil to fry.

I then coated the wings by dropping them into the spices and shaking the bag a bit.

When the fryer was ready (Green Light means GO) I put a few wings in to give them a test fry and see if the seasoning was sufficient.

Look at ‘em go! Be careful though! If you’re clumsy like me you might one day drop your phone into the deep fryer.

When they were done, maybe 8 mins later, I dropped them onto some paper towel to let them cool. Then made everyone taste. Nummy sounds told me they were good. So I began to fry the rest.
In between frying and cooling off sushi rice, I showed Nechama how to prep for sushi and let her have at some cucumber and avocado.

She is showing that cucumber who is boss!
Once everything was prepped I showed her how to make two rolls and let her decide which she was going to do.

She alternated between Salmon Avocado Rolls, Spicy Salmon Rolls, California Rolls, and Spicy California Rolls.

My Chicken wings were done! yay! they smelled sooooo good!

We made like 10x more than what is shown above which is why I will be enjoying sushi for lunch today and probably tomorrow!

I demonstrated how to use the “messy” ends to create a design. The outside pieces are cut diagonally.

With the leftover salmon, I made sashimi.

If I was better at slicing fish, this would have come out prettier. But it was still tasty.

NOM!

And to finish off the rice we made I showed Nechama how to make a hand roll. Pretty eh?
