The other day, my lunch buddies and I decided to Treat ourselves (AKA Treat Yo Self, Thanks for the inspiration Kim) to a fabulous lunch. We are very blessed with amazingly affordable lunches by our office. But every now and then, we deserve a decadent splurge. With a hankering for a glass of sangria, we decided to go to Sazon for lunch.
Sazon is conveniently located in the Tribeca area of manhattan. Its the sister location to the swanky and delicious hot spot Sofrito (Located on East 51st Street of Manhattan). The only difference between these two locations is that the Tribeca location offers lunch! yay!
We started with some deceptively potent and tasty sangrias. Afterall, what is a ladies lunch without a little vino? amiright?
We also opted for the croquetas de Bacalao. Fried balls of cod fish. In our excitedness, i forgot to snap a picture of it. Trust me when i say it was more delicious than it looked!
Karen got the Cabo Rojo a la Plancha. A panini style sandwich with shrimp and crab salad and a side of crispy Yuca frittes and chimichurri sauce. Karen is a health conscious Diva, so watching her enjoy this in its entirety was very awesome!
Jeanyra took advantage of the soup and half sandwich deal. It was a Yuca and corn puree which she devoured happily. Along with half a cubanito sandwich.
I opted for the sancocho soup. Its the best soup for hangovers. A homemade broth with chunks of potatoes, ox tail, chicken and beef. For $10 you get this massive pot on a plate FILLED with comfort. I unabashedly devoured all of it. And I didnt even regret it.
Overall, lunch came out to $30 per person after rinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert… we shared a tres leches cake that was to die for. A little expensive for lunch but every now and again, we deserve to treat ourselves.
I think Sazon is a great venue for lunch but the one thing that really gets on my nerves are the MILLION birthdays that occur while you are dining. They blast a spanglish Happy Birthday song and scream and shout… this also happens at the swanky location uptown… and its just as annoying over dinner as it is during lunch.
