When Tiffany emailed me and asked me if I was going to be in NY for the weekend of the 4th, I had to tell my cousin I was sorry but I had to cancel our plans because Miss Tiffany was going to be in NYC that weekend. Mari and I were psyched and we planned a walking tour of lower Manhattan.
Being a blogger is really quite wonderful. I share so much of my soul here and read so much about everyone else’s blog that I feel like I know so many of you and in truth, haven’t even heard your voices! When I met up with Tiffany at her hotel in Times Square we hugged and kissed like we were long lost buddies reuniting after a long time apart. Only, we weren’t. We were meeting for the first time. It was much like that when i met Mari for the first time. We spent so much time emailing, texting, and blogging that when we met for the first time (a trip to the gym together) it wasn’t weird at all sweating on each other at the gym! Why can’t DATING be this easy???
Once Mari arrived (damn trains!) we walked to the emptiest Starbucks we could find in Times Square and mapped out our day. In true blogger fashion we all had our cellphones and coffees out chitchatting about our plans.

and of course, taking pics of our bevvies.

Don’t you love the outdoor seating available in Times Square now??? So much of the congestion has been releived on the sidewalks! (feel bad for drivers though). Once we were solid on details of our adventure, we headed for the subway. It was Tiffany’s first ride on a New York City Subway.

Virgin Feet. And since we were in Times Square I thought it would be fitting to go over the details… rather answer all her questions.
“How often does it run?” “How many lines are there?” “It never closes?” “How the hell do you manage this on a daily basis?”

I snapped a pic of Tiffany next to the 42nd street sign and then told her what Times Square was like in 15 years ago. For those that don’t know, it was referred to as 42nd street and it was a smut district. Lots of peep shows and prostitutes… but now its a bonafide tourist trap. Its no longer offensive to say “My momma works on 42nd street”…
When we got downtown Mari realized that her camera battery was home so we made a detour to Best Buy in Unionw Square.

But camera batteries dont come fully charged and her camera phone was working JUST FINE. So we pressed on.

And took a break from the heat to peak inside of the much loved, Max Brenner dessert shoppe.

Love this pic. Mari, you nenas look fab! LOL.

And we turned 12 years old when we saw this naughty tree. Its amazing how many people walk by when you are trying to be discreet about taking naughty day time pics. Pretty soon we ended up at a bright orange Mecca for mac and cheese freaks.

S’Mac. and since the last time i have been dreaming og the sampler. Mari is a vegetarian so we didnt want to tempt her with our cheese burger mac… and Tiff and I shared the sampler.

we were excited!

and tiff was hungry. (okay, i was hungry too) After our mac and cheese breakfast, we took our bellies to 2nd avenue and found a giant burger.

mari will only eat this burger.
silly mari.
And we found Pommes Frittes.
belgian fries. Mari, the Good Girl, only tasted one or two… and claimed they were nothing to write home about… but the stars of the show were the dipping sauces. Pommes Frittes has 25 dipping sauces… and not just Ketchup… but lots of mayo based sauces for you dipping pleasure. Of course while we were sitting mari and tiffany overheard the ladies next to us talking about blogging. And me being a big mouth was nominated to be the bold one and ask the girls what blogs they wrote. Only two of them were bloggers. One was a fitness blogger. And I gave them my card and we all told them they HAD to go to S’Mac. I sure hope they did!
Tiff and I only ate about a palmful of fries when we decided we were done… But our tour continued and we ended up at a cute lil place called Panhandler. Thats where Tiff and i purchased some cupcake holders… for our Crumbs Cupcakes.

there were only two cupcakes in the entire bakery that would fit into our holders…. but will you get a load of that monster??? I might have to pick this up for when Carol comes to visit!

and Crumbs has promotional cupcakes! Last time I tried one of those was for the first Sex and the City Movie… my opinion of these is that they are purely gimmicks and seriously lacking in the YUM department. and wth! those calorie counts are insane- what a buzz kill. But its clear- Edward is definately better for you than Jacob! TEAM EDWARD!

Heres my 300 cal cupcake! love it. I had it in my bag all day and it stood intact!

Tiff was being silly on the phone. “No mom, I’m NOT going to MOVE to NYC [yet]”
After we picked up our cupcakes Mari suggested we get a real hot dog for Tiff to try.

at Grays Papaya of course!

Tiff and I split this baby because we were stuffed as it was….
and after our hot dog we took a walk and ended up in a weird place.

Cock Pops anyone??? edible undies? gummy pee-pees?
“Mo, get out of there!”
OKAY…
we headed to the park Washington Square park! and stood near the water fountain where it was somewhat cooler. I noticed a SWEET tanline from wearing my flip flops… speaking of sweet- peep this sand art! HOLLA!
we had to go back to Starbucks for some more caffein… and a break for our toesies when i spotted something FREE.
Free HUGS! Hell yes! i just wanted one hug… and i guess they were all in need of hugs themselves and I got about 10 different hugs. But this guy kept coming back for more… guess i am a snuggly hugger.
At this point Tiff gave me and mari the biggest shock of our lives. We walked by a hot dog stand and tiff said “Um, what’s a Knish?” and Mari and I stopped dead in our tracks and in unison said WHAT??. Without hesitation mari ordered a Knish with mustard STAT for tiff.
I cant beleive on a walking food tour we left out something so basic… and more importantly- Tiff never heard of it!

I was ready to capture her first bite.

SUCCESS! She liked it! and for those that do not know what a Knish is… what are you waiting for!?!
AFter that, we called it a day. can you beleive we braved the heat for 5 hrs?!?!

We dropped tiff off at her hotel and i became fixated with her Fig Vodka…. how cool!
When i got home I passed out and got ready for my beach day in Sunken Meadow which you will hear about tomorrow.
I miss Tiffany already. I am so glad she came to visit! Mari, i might come visit- i need to walk off some of that Knish!
Did you guys have a great weekend???

Glad you all liked Part One of the Cable Guy. If you liked part one I think you will definitely enjoy part two… because a lot of you cant imagine it getting any worse… BUT IT CAN! LOL

And Sorry to say I am NOT a lawyer but for the sake of my rent and my ability to keep paying my rent i will not disclose my actual job- but do know that LAWYER too far from the truth- just a slight embellishment. All the facts about Cable Guy? TRUE. 100% true.

*********

Doncha hate wakin up late?

Lately, when my alarm goes off I am so quick to slam the snooze button that half the time I dont consciously know I am doing this… its horrid. Then i look at the clock, see its 730 and bolt outta bed to get ready for work. I knew someone who used to keep their alarm clock across the room so they would have to physically wake up to turn off the alarm clock….might be worth a try but I fear i will get into the habit of getting up, walking to the alarm clock, slamming the snooze and going back to sleep… lol.

Anyway, On those days where I snooze too much, I don’t give myself much time to prepare the meals for the day.

And thats why i love starbucks. Egg white Feta wrap with an iced coffee with skim milk. MMMM.

And I made lunch the night before (luckily). A bed of spring greens with these awesome frozen chicken strips from trader joes. Literally place the frozen strips on my salad the night before and by lunch time they are defrosted, tender and delish! They save my life!

I came home and told the roomie i was going to make dinner. Dinner was going to take 45 mins. and I was hungry… so i had dessert first.

I scored these from that time we went to Cracker Barrel. Peanut Buter Moon Pies.

They were okay… I guess i was too excited or something. They were too rich. a few bites and I had to stop. But thats okay- i had dinner to make.

I made pollo guisado and brown rice.

Roomie sat down to a big plate of rice and chicken. He took a bite of the rice and made a face. I asked “how is it?” and he said “its edible”.

WELL I NEVER!

and I soon found out that Mr. Man does not like Brown Rice. but he loved the chicken…

Butt Head.

And with that, I will say I HATE cooking in the summer! My kitchen is a windowless sauna from hell!

How was Everyone’s Weekend???

I grew to HATE MTA on saturday more than I have ever hated the MTA. And I missed the Pride Parade : ( But the good news is that I spent some quality cuddle time with MickeyPie.

Howdy.
Did you wake up looking like a goldfish today? If not, you’re lucky. Can I move to a land with ZERO pollen? can i? please? There is a tree right outside my bedroom window. and there was pollen dust all over the windowsill. My prescription meds aren’t strong enough this year so i doubled up on my doses… if you dont hear from me after today- send my mother over! LOL!
After my 2nd dose of anti-histamines- i am feeling much much better.
Anyone know any homeopathic remedies for allergies? someone mentioned accupunture or going to the Chiro… if it helps I will run there!
I had a great weekend. Went to Spa Castle with my friends and provided an indepth look into my day at the spa…complete with tits and ass. LOL. If you are still a reader after all that then you really love me…
speaking of love
Look who LOVES looking at herself. “Mommy, whos that pretty doggy?”
The other day, I left work early to be with my secret lovah. We only had an afternoon to hang out so of course I ran outta work like a bat outta hell! We ended up at the spanish place by my house called Tu Casa and stuffed our faces with shredded roast pork, arroz moro and platanos with lots and lots of green sauce… at some point I reached for the green sauce thinking it was my soda and nearly took a chug. Safe to say, i realized it before i regretted it. After our spanish feast we took a train ride Midtown while Mickey went to my friend Patti’s for a play date (doggy diva!). Right off the train we spotted something sweet. And i couldnt resist. You know my heart belongs to Crumbs… and Sugar Sweet Sunshine but I couldn’t IGNORE Magnolia Bakery when they had a full supply of red velvet cupcakes! The regular cupcakes they have do not make me happy…but the red velvet I ate was actually delicious and texturally wonderful! So Food Snob Likes Magnolias Red Velvet Cupcakes ONLY. See the crazed look in my eyes? thats the power of the red velvet.

The following day I woke up early and totally forgot to eat breakfast (shocking, i know) so midday was STARVING. I had an image of a spa omlette but my pan was being a retard and i couldnt execute it properly. I ended up with runny eggs, avocado, a mini bagel and two slices of ham…oh yea and coffee and sugar sweet pineapples.

yuuum! Luckily that big brunch at home filled me up till late in the evening when I also forgot to eat. Seriously, i might have been Ill. Like, how do you FORGET TO EAT? So, around 830 ish i ordered some take out.

Sushi never disappoints! never! Unless of course you hate sushi, but i think thats a personal problem.
The wonderful Patti, whom baby sat my Mickey girl was kind enough to go all the way to Corona Queens to bring me back a giant pressie…

Oh sweet Cheeses! This is a childhood favorite and as I sat on my bed eating my rainbow ice, i reminisced on the good ol days when i had no bills, no responsibilities and a LOT of fun!
sigh.
Anything exciting happen over the weekend?
EDIT:
Emily over at the Hungry Loft is having a giveaway to help raise money for a darling little boy that has just been diagnosed with Luekemia at the age of 2. It breaks my heart to know there is a little boy out there, cute as a button by the way, who is undergoing chemo and and various surgeries. For every dollar donated, Emily is going to issue an entry to win a gift basket along with some other goodies (crofters, shoe wallets, etc). All she is asking for is $1 via paypal. If you cant donate, please spread the word!

The last of the Baked Goods

When I was experiencing Baking Fever, I took a bag of “goop” out of the freezer to begin the fermentation of the Amish Friendship Bread. Amish Friendship Bread takes 10 days to ferment and requires some mashing and mixing throughout the ten days. It sounds like a total pain in the butt, however, the end result is a moist, flavorful, cake-like sweet treat that is totally made from Scratch. Its called friendship bread, in my opinion, because the lengthy process involved to make said bread is the labor of love… and presenting it as a gift will show the lucky person that you are willing to watch a bag for 10 days just to make them fat. Friendship rocks!
But really, friendship bread is named so because during the fermenting process, you are constantly adding more ingredients to substantiate enough “goop” to make new starter bags for your “friends”… None of my friends appreciate a baked good that takes ten days to make; except for one.

Okay, so empty your goop in a bowl and add all of the called for ingredients. Mix it up with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula (because it is written all over the recipe that no metal is allowed- whatevs) and bake.

This is the glamour shot before it was baked. I would have loved to have an after picture but my camera decided it was done for the night. So you can refer to the last time i made amish bread pics or your imagination. The bread was sweet, moist, full of yummy chocolate bits and gone in like a day! I was pleased with this bread. Henry sliced it and toasted it with a spritz of butter- it was like a chocolate chip muffin- fantastic!

I have one more batch of friendship bread that I am going to make and will have 2 extra bags of starter kit… if anyone is interested… and I mean seriously interested email me at moniquer83 AT gmail DOT com. (beleive it or not I have been with a starter kit for over a year- ever since my cousin gave me a bag to make… been making it ever since! oh, and NEVER GIVE AWAY YOUR LAST STARTER!)

Okay kiddos, My night of baking left me ill-prepared for breakfast the next day… and I ran out of cash and the Dunkin Donuts was all out of english muffins (AGAIN) so i went to McDonalds. The hashbrown magically disappeared before I could take a snapshot of it. Silly me! I HATED their coffee! It was horrid! blech! Weak, too much sugar, too much milk-!
How do you take your coffee???
I like mine REGULAR- 1 milk, 2 sugars.
Lunch was already packed. It was a doctored up lean cuisine. Fettuccine alfredo, shredded chicken, and broccoli. Very hearty! and I also got a free SoBe Life Water. I am really diggin the “juice-like” waters!
On my way home from work, in new shoes…hush puppies to be exact, i was limping from a new blister (oh, you new shoes and your blisters) and as I was walking to my building that was one block away i felt a squish.
And any New York knows that a “squish” on a side walk can be a gazillion things… My mind did a quick list of the possibilities:
-discarded fruit
-a dead bug
-a dead rodent
-and the worst thing ever- DOG POOP
Guess which one it was??
Yes, dog poop. My new hush puppies and poop. Oh the irony. So I marched myself and my poo shoes home and spent a good portion of time scrubbing (with gloves and clorox) the poop off the shoe… and why do soles have grooves??? UGH! Gross!
Henry brought dinner over because after scrubbing- i really didnt feel like cooking or reheating. i said to bring pizza. I imagined a slice of pizza. what I got was a personal pie. with peperoni.
and extra cheese.
DAMN YOU HENRY. I ask for a slice and you bring me my own personal pizza pie!
I love you, but damn you.
Don’t worry- i didn’t eat it all!
He got sausage and olives. I had a bite. Pretty good. Not as good as my homemade pizza.
So my dearies, I leave with one more question:
What do you like on YOUR pizza.

My Microwave is Broken…

Yeah, the damn thing broke last week. I didnt think much of it but after a while it starts to hinder my daily schedule. I cant heat up my coffee in a minute anymore! Boo! I have had to toss leftovers because they waited for the microwave. Good news is that management supplied the microwave when we moved in so there should be a new one coming shortly… for free! Cha Ching!
But people ate leftovers before microwaves…it just took longer to reheat. So while Henry and Mickey played in the park (oh, those two!) I reheated dinner the old fashioned way. And it only took 45 minutes LOL. But the food was wonderfully fresh tasting… and Now there are no more leftovers. After the park, my Human dog who has really come out of her shell was being really quiet and I found her sleeping on Henry’s pajama bottoms in a chair… like a HUMAN.

I dont lie! And I did not prop her up or roll her over. she likes sleeping on her back from time to time. What a silly girl! And thanks for the advice of leaving her an article of clothing while I go to work. I left her my pajamas today in her bed and she didnt notice that I left for work. I even stayed in the hallway for a few minutes and it was silent. I just hope she doesnt go berzerk!

here’s a peek at Mickey’s Dinner today. Grilled Chicken and boiled pasta. Its a bland diet. She loves it. But Im going to start putting dry dog food in the mix and slowly wean her off the wet stuff. My girl is underweight so I gotta fatten her up!

For Breakfast today I had a ham, egg and cheese sammie from Starbucks. It was small but it was really tasty!

And Spring is here so its time for some ICED COFFEE! Im finally sleeping well again and I will be drinking NORMAL sized coffees soon!
Dad and I are going out for lunch today. I have a feeling we are going off the beaten path to try something different! Cant wait to take pics of that. I have missed blogging!

In a few day I will be hopping a flight to Texas for the APLS Conference and won’t be seeing my family or friends for like 5 days, so we decided to have a big dinner at Sofrito. Sofrito is an upscale restaurant on East 57th and 1st Ave and they serve Puerto Rican Cuisine… Prepare yourselves for culinary porn… Here is the best sangria I have ever had! I beleive their secret lies within a bottle of Blackberry Brandy and some triple sec in a good sweet red… We each had 3 glasses of this lovely stuff.

The wait for for one whole hour so when we sat down we immediately decided to order an appetizer. I was glad i had my camera with me. This platter was amazing! It was chicharones de pollo y pernil (fried chunks of chicken and pork), fried shrip, fried calamari, tostones de mariscos, carne, pollo, y pulpo. (fried plantains served with shrimp, beef, chicken, and octopus. sooo good!
My momma and poppa… we were all smiles till we found out the appetizer was $60. So glad we took a photo of that one because we will NEVER order that one again.
My friend Dan and his wife Nechama. It was her birthday last week so we were all secretly planning an embarrassing birthday cake for dessert.
Me and the boy! He has a face! Ladies and Gents, this Be Henritos.
Me and Nechama acting like seafood bandits…we attacked the mariscos hard core.
Then my entree arrived. This is what a $25 paella looks like. Its HUGE. Its loaded. Its mine. And pretty much the best entre on the friggin menu.
Paella is safron rice with peas, chorizo, mussels, clams, lobster, and chicken along with some sliced red peppers. I had so much food in my bowl that I was giving away stuff. Henry helped me eat it by loving reaching over for rice 🙂
Dan got the fried pork chops. He loved it. I didnt try it but everyone else did. They said it was crisp on the outside and extremly juicy on the inside. and of course it was expertly seasoned.
Dad had the Roast Pork (aka Pernil) which had a crisp skin and juicy dark meat inside. Served with a side of arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) and platano maduros (sweet plantains)
Mom and Nechama got the stuffed Red Snapper. Nechama’s worst fear was that her fish would be looking at her…but it was so good she didnt even care! It was stuffed with calamari and shrimp. (Dan poked out the eyes when she was done- gross)
Henry got a shrimp scampi of sorts with garlic spinach. He enjoyed it but LOVED the paella. He plans on getting the paella next time…
Then while we were eating, Henry told the waiter it was Nechama’s Birthday (its tradition for us to go to Sofrito to Celebrate a Birthday and we were happy there was an actual birthday!) so the waiter replied with “Congrats Man, I will bring your table two desserts on the house” Doesnt that mean FREE???
Right, the waiter claims to have said he will bring two of the best desserts of the house… which is very slick in my opinion. He didnt even ask what we wanted and just brought over two desserts. Tres Leches cake (on the right) and flan (on the left). Both were good but the flan was hands down the best.
After dinner Henry surprised me and took me to the rooftop garden on 5th ave. They gave us robes and blankets while we sat in the moonlight with a gorgeous backdrop.
We were given warm red robes to keep warm with blankets and had big mugs of smokin hot spiked ciders! They were delicious and hit the spot.
Dan and Nechama reported they felt like a part of a secret red robe society or a Harry Potter event.
I had a big irish coffee and Henry had a Makers Mark with maple syrup.

TOWER DINER Review

Its Thursday. I normally wake up at 7:30 am to go to work but at 5 am, my alarm clock woke me up. 4 hours ago I was still awake… Damn that Henry set the alarm so he could take me to breakfast before work. At 5:21 he kicked me out of bed and I got ready. Once I hit the shower i was wide awake. When I was dressed and ready to go at 6 am (record time) guess where Henry was?
SLEEPING.
Under the Covers.
SNORING.
DAMMIT!
So I had to be Drill Sgt and get him out of bed to fulfill his wishes to get breakfast at the butt crack of dawn.

At 6:45 we ended up at Tower Diner because the Village Diner was closed and T-Bone Diner sucks. Plus, I have been wanting to try this place since Missy recommends it. (Sorry Missy, it was really early and I didnt have the heart to wake you!)

We got there early so we perused the breakfast specials. I love breakfast specials but I honestly hate ordering these days. I never seem to know what i REALLY want. It makes me sad.

But Coffee always makes me happy. And I had my splenda with it. And can I just say God Bless Free refills times 3!

I ordered the Spinach Florentine omelet with Egg Whites and a side of sausage.

Then I got fancy with it. This is a good pic if I may say so myself. I always love the pics in Kath’s Blog… But shes fancy that way.

Henry got the steak and eggs. he dumped half a bottle of A1 on the steak with some hot sauce and was shoveling man sized bites into his mouth. He always tastes my food and I always taste his (even on our first date) and today he SHOVED a HUGE forkful in my mouth and was eager for my “yea” or “nay” but I was chewing for about an hour… okay like a whole 2 mins. that’s crazy. After I finished the crazy chunk of beef shoved into my mouth I decided I like steak without A1 sauce. But it was okay. Sorry babez.
Verdict: Nice Diner! Dont know why I have never been there. I would much rather go there than T-Bone Diner! I really liked their home fries (which is huge because I hate home fries) and wasnt too crazy about the omelet because there was more feta cheese than egg whites and I need a little of both. Next time I will get the Swiss and Mushroom omelet…I can never have enough swiss!

Why Do They Even Bother?

I woke up late today. It should be noted that when you have an overnight guest you should get up early to ensure you have enough time to coax them out of bed- or in this case beat them with the pillow until they relent and get the hell out of bed. Yes Henry- I am talking about you.
My failure to plan my meals for today has left me with a plan for failure. DERF!
So I left my house at the latest possible time and headed to work. I punched in two minutes before i was LATE *whew* so I ducked out and got some coffee. I got my boss a cup too for good measure…or ass kissing – whatever you choose. I headed to Dunkin Donuts because they were closest. And something told me not to go there but it was sooo cold! I wanted a latte lite with an english muffin sammie. I also ordered a medium coffee No Sugar. When i got my order the woman shouted “Ham, Egg, and Cheese on a Bagel” so i ignored her. I got my latte and took a sip. So far so good. I got my boss’ coffee and there was sugar ALL over the cup. I said “Excuse me, does this have sugar in it?” and he looked me square in the face and said “No.”
“Are you SURE theres no sugar in there?”
“I swear there is no sugar in there”
“If I taste this and there is sugar in there I might die – are you comfortable with your decision?”
He nods.
I take a sip.
Not only is there sugar in it but I think it was originally an order of sugar with some coffee and cream in it. It was too sweet for ME! I smiled.
“Dearie, either you want my boss to die or you want me to get fired. This is loaded with sugar”
He sucks his teeth and takes it back “How did you want it again?”
UGH!
By this time I forgot about my sandwich. The lady making the sandwich asks me what I ordered I tell her an english muffin with ham, egg, and cheese. She hands me a bag. I say thank you and run back to the office.
A Bagel! She gave me a bagel! Oh My Freaking GAWD. What is wrong with these people!?!?!

Lets rewind to last night…

It was take out night. Henry and I spent an hour looking over menus and couldn’t decide on Italian, Japanese, Chinese, or Spanish Food. I finally just picked up the first paper I could find and saw it was an italian menu. ITALIAN.
meh. But oh well.
First I wanted pasta.
then I wanted pizza.
Then I wanted whatever Henry was having. (i SUCK at ordering food- i always want what others have…. MOM i think i get this from you)
I settled on a Spinach Calzone. Dough, 2 kinds of cheeses, spinach, and fat. Sounds great. Henry agreed and got a pepperoni one.
He snuck in an order of Mozzarella Sticks. Good Lord Almighty! How much Cheese did we eat last night???? Although I must say they were the most delicious $8 mozzarella sticks ever. The marinara sauce was CLEARLY homemade. YUM!

We originally agree to have half of each others food. Henry was Loving his calzone.

While mine was seriously lacking some flavor. In Brooklyn, I Love the Calzones from Sal’s Pizzeria on Lorimer Street. They have a hint of garlic in the cheese and if there is an added ingredient, say spinach, they season the spinach. This calzone was bland. the spinach was boiled and squeezed dry. Then dropped into my garlic-free calzone. I didnt have the heart to share this disappointment with Henry so I left him in Calzone Heaven and made a note to take him to Sal’s in the near future for an authentic foodgasm of the cheesy kind.
I had absolutely nothing to drink in the apartment but milk, water, and a frozen mini beer keg. So we reached for our POM and added water to it. I’m still not loving the POM. I love POM tea though.

REWIND to YESTERDAY’s Lunch. (NY Pretzel Chicken Salad)

I didnt get to eat it because Dad took me to Thai Son to get some Pho. Pho realz. (couldn’t resist)
I got the veggie pho and it made me very happy.

Sooooo. Today, I am going to be eating yesterday’s lunch for lunch today.
In other unrelated news:
My coworker sent me a link of NY Times top 50 Food Blogs.
NO I didnt make the cut. ( but some of my faves did)
But you should check it out here.
Tonight, Henry and I are eating Fancy.
You’ll see when I upload tonight’s pics.

*Yawn* Is it time to go home yet?

When I got home last night from work I had some time to kill so I prepped for today’s consumption. After the prep, I was still waiting for my dinner date and ate a half a sammie.

White bread, cheese, and a small piece of chicken leftover from the rotisserie. Glad I ate this because an hour later i was still waiting. I got to eat dinner at 830.

Henry Chose to take me to Kyoto. I didn’t realize until after we ate that they pride themselves on being Creative. I’m really glad it was a “good” kind of creative. Don’t mess with my food (Kraft singles and all!)

The minute I knew we were having sushi I ordered a Japanese beer. When I took my sushi making class the chefs were adamant about telling us Sake is not meant to accompany sushi because its “rice on rice”. Beer is better because it allows you to fully taste the little subtleties in your sushi. Whatevs.

I’m a big fan of maki rolls so i ordered the Maki Combo…ironically the only thing in here with avocado is the California roll. Still yummy though. It was a lot of sushi. ALMOST too much. I said almost.

AFTER my sushi arrived, the waiter brought out my dish water, i mean Miso Soup. I happen to be a big fan of the stuff but am amazed at how different miso soup tastes in every restaurant! This soup however tasted like dish water. So I was happy to leave it untouched. Even my boyfriend who is not a picky eater refused to eat this soup… yuck.

Henry had a mountain of chicken pad thai. It was enormous. The poor guy sat there eating and didn’t even make a dent in it. We took the rest home. Might have been his brekkie… I don’t know.

For the third day in a row, I am having grits. This bowl was perfect. However, I didn’t eat brekkie until 1130 because while running out of the house I forgot to brew my coffee and got a triple venti skinny cinnamon dolce latte kept me satiated all morning!

Then, feeling snacky and weak, I succumbed to the temptation I keep on my desk. M&M peanut. *sigh*

I also had a green tea craving… Love me some green tea!

For lunch today I had the most delectable salad! I haven’t had a salad, homemade, this good in a LONG LONG time! Butter lettuce, crumbled bleu cheese, dried cherries, sliced almonds and a balsamic vinaigrette. Super yum!

Before I go home I will have a 1/2 cup of chicken pot pie soup; to prevent snackage when i get home… that’s dangerous!
There are random snacks in my bag that are leftovers from other days. If anyone needs a snack today I have extra LOL.

And lastly, a class photo, if you will.

Breakfast for Dinner

When I got home last night I was exhausted. Apparently, I did not know it was Lunar New Year and was running all over Chinatown looking for toasted seaweed paper to make dinner. No such luck! I found some at my grocery store and they were expensive, Desperate times call for Desperate measures.
I decided that I wanted something quick and the sushi I made will be for lunch today. (All that running around for nothing really)

I was craving eggs. So I made Birds in a Nest. Its pretty much toast with an egg inside. I used a wine glass to cut a hole into my bread. Then i placed the “holey” bread on a lightly buttered griddle. once it starts to get toasty i drop the raw egg in the middle and let it cook for 2 mins. Flip it and salt it. When its done, the bread will be toasty and the egg will be fluffy and cooked. Don’t waste the center. I made a mini grilled cheese with it.

I prepared my lunch and set it aside. I only took one bite- i promise. But I cant wait for lunch!

Breakfast this morning was my good ol‘ pancakes. I had a major batch leftover last time i made pancakes. I wrapped two pancakes in plastic wrap and froze the portions. Easy breakfast!Defrost it and take it to work. When I make a new batch I will post the recipe. Promise.
